Type of paper

WILLESDEN PAPER

A strong parchment like product made by gelatinizing of the surface of paper with cupramoium hydroxide, which like sulphuric acid used in making vegetable parchment, or zinc chloride used in making vulcanized fibre, is a solvent for cellulose. If a thick sheet is desired, several gelatinized sheets are brought together and pressed before washing or drying. It is tough, water and fire resistant, and because of the presence of copper salts is resistant to rat, bacteria fungi, and insect pest. It is also employed for insulating purposes, roof covering etc. While this paper has been principally manufactured abroad, deriving its name from a London suburb, the term is considered important in international trade.
